Music Director Notes: Bruckner & Mozart Performances

Mr. Pittman’s notes on our October 2014 concerts

In October we played Bruckner’s Symphony No. 2 and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23. Mr. Pittman writes:

“These concerts were high on the list of best performances by the Concord Orchestra. The Mozart Concerto with Randy Hodgkinson went very well both nights and it was probably the best performance of Mozart so far by the Concord Orchestra: tone, intonation and ensemble were good and the orchestra provided a musical, cohesive accompaniment to Randy’s sensitive playing.”

“The Bruckner got a committed, gutsy and passionate reading. The orchestra handled the matter of endurance for the 65 minute length of the piece ably. During the rehearsal period, the orchestra gradually mastered the difficult technical passages and the intonation of the many keys Bruckner travels through in the course of his beautiful, moving Symphony. The Orchestra also come to fully appreciate the beauty of Bruckner’s music. The enthusiastic reception of the audience both nights was a testament to the greatness of Bruckner’s music as well the high level of the orchestra’s performance.”
