2017 Young Artist Competition winners

The orchestra holds auditions for the Ehlers Young Artist Concerto Competition in early November. Students from area high schools, middle schools, and even elementary schools prepare a concerto and audition for the chance to play their concerto with the orchestra.

This year, our winner is Nathaniel Abreu. Hi is 15 years old and plays cello. Nathaniel hails from Somerville and studies with Sam Ou. He will play his audition piece with the orchestra in January: Concerto No. 1 by Dmitry Kabalevsky.

Two more young musicians received Honorable Mention:

  • Alan Hlozek, 17-year-old cellist, also from Somerville, who studies with Michael Bonner
  • Julia Zhou, 8-year-old pianist from Westford, who studies with Ron Kmiec

You can hear Nathaniel with the orchestra on January 27 and 28, 2017. Keep in touch to find out the full schedule of Young Artist events.
