Katherine Liu from Wellesley is one of the honorees in our Ehlers Young Artist Concerto Competition. She will play a prelude recital before the January 30 concert. Come early, at 7:15 pm, to hear her 20-minute program. Admission is included when you get a ticket to the orchestra concert at 8pm.

A review of her accomplishments
Katherine has won an impressive array of prizes, and still does some normal-kid stuff. Here’s her biography:
Katherine E. Liu , 11, is a fifth grader living in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She started her musical journey at the age of three with her mother Dr. Huang, a piano teacher. Katherine gave her first public piano performance at Boston’s Steinway Hall at the age of four. Since then she has won numerous awards and competitions.
In 2015, Katherine won the Grand Prix for the VI Chopin International Piano Competition in CT, and as a result, she was invited to attend a Music Festival in Poland. Katherine was the runner-up for the Concord Youth Artist Concerto Competition, and was given the opportunity to perform a solo recital at the Performing Arts Center in Concord.
As a winner of American Protégé, Katherine had her Carnegie Hall debut in 2015. In 2014, Katherine was the first place winner of both the Steinway Piano Competition and the Bay State Piano Competition, she was invited to perform at Boston Symphony Hall for the Cartoon Festival and the Award Ceremony. Katherine also had the privilege to perform at a benefit concert which was organized by Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition, she was invited to perform at the Inaugural Concert Series in Burlington.
Katherine has been featured on WCRB 99.5 with Mrs. Cathy Fuller, and performed at Fraser Performance Studio. Recently Katherine has been chosen to make her first appearance on NPR’s From the Top with Host Christopher O’Riley at Jordan Hall in February of 2016.
Katherine has had piano master classes with Mr. Victor Rosenbaum, Mr. Max Levinson and Dr. Krystian Tkaczwski. Currently she is a student of Mrs. Dorothy Shi. Besides piano, Katherine also enjoys playing violin in her school orchestra and dancing at Walnut Hill Community Dance Academy. In her free time, she loves to read, swim and solve math problems.
